Cross Country Squads Earn Preseason Praise
Top Of The Morning Patriots. The opening line of Springsteen’s “Born to Run” is “In the day we sweat it out on the streets.”
Sweating it out in the streets (and trails) is what Mason’s cross country squads have been doing to prepare for this fall.
The Patriots will look to show off that work tomorrow morning in the season opening meet in Richmond.
And speaking of the Boss, our volleyball squad will be heading to his home state of Jersey this weekend.
What all is stirring in today’s Brew? You don’t want to miss!

🔼 Born To Run. With the start of the 2023 campaign just 24 hours away, both Patriots cross country squad earned preseason praise from their conference competitions.
In both the men’s and women’s preseason A10 polls, the Patriots were selected to finish third, following both squads top-five finish last fall.
The A-10 Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Dayton at Ohio, on October 28th , 2023.
🔼 Jersey Girls. As most folks hit the road to enjoy a few days off for Labor Day, the Mason volleyball team is hitting the road as well.
However, their trip is a business trip as the Patriots head to compete in the Seton Hall Classic for three games. Mason will take on NJIT (11 am) and Seton Hall (5 pm) on Friday, and Saint Peter’s (12 pm) on Saturday.
🔼 Tip Of The Cap. As Director of Athletics Marvin Lewis continues to build the future of the Patriots, a new organization structure has been put in place, including two Mason leaders being promoted into new roles.
As part of the reorganization, Lewis promoted two senior leaders, former interim Athletic Director Nena Rogers and senior associate AD, CFO Jenny Everett.
Entering her 25th season with Mason Athletics, Rogers will assume the title of Deputy Athletics Director, Student Services and Performance. She will be the Patriots' Senior Woman's Administrator (SWA) and continue her leadership of the department's Diversity and Inclusion team and the student Care team.
Everett's new title is Sr. Associate Athletics Director, Finance & Administration/Chief Financial Officer after serving as the department's Sr. Associate AD, CFO, since September 23, 2021.
In addition to Rogers and Everett, Lewis' strategic team is comprised of Todd Bramble, Deputy AD, Intercollegiate Athletics; Malcolm Grace, Deputy AD, Compliance and NCAA Governance, Zack Bolno, Deputy AD, External Relations; and Andrew Lieber, Sr. Associate AD, Capital Planning, Facilities, and Events.

🔼 Christmas In August. There’s very few days more popular for student-athletes than “Gear Day.”
Our partners at Adidas helped us unveil our new gear to the men’s basketball squad. To say they are hyped would be a little bit of an understatement.
🔼 Toe-To-Toe. One thing is for sure, Mason’s men’s soccer team won’t back down to anyone.
Facing a nationally-ranked in-state rival on the road, the Patriots went toe-to-toe with UVA, dropping a heartbreaker, 1-0, on Thursday night in Charlottesville.
The Cavaliers got a goal in the 24th minute and used that to hold on for the win.
Mason is back in action on Monday evening right here in Fairfax when they take on another in-state rival, ODU, at 7 p.m.
🔼 Keep Fighting. That’s all we can do.
Mason’s women’s soccer team dropped a tough 4-0 decision to perennial NCAA Tournament contender William & Mary on Thursday night.
The two teams battled evenly in the first 30 minutes of the match, before the Tribe scored two goals in the final 15 minutes of the first half to propel them to the victory.
Mason returns home on Sunday to host another difficult task in Villanova, which will mark the first time in 20 years that the two programs have faced off.
Sunday’s game will be the squad’s Team IMPACT day, where they will recognize Faith, their honorary teammate that signed with the Patriots back in February.

Family bonds run deep.
No matter the year. No matter the circumstance. Families stick together.
That bond is what the George Mason men’s basketball program was built on and its meant something special to the former Patriots to have one of their one at the helm.
In the first episode of “Keepin’ It In The Family” some of the all-time greats sit down to talk about having Coach Skinn running the show.
