Patriot Brew 4/5: Connect Four

Quartet Of Patriots, Past and Present, Earn Accolades

TGIF Mason Nation. It’s starting to look like a CVS receipt…

What are we referring to? The list of accolades that the Patriots have piled up this year!

This week added plenty more lines to that list as not one, not two, not three, but 4️⃣ Patriots, of both past and present, earned honors!

We’ll recap it all for you! Check it out below!

🏐 All Jack’d Up
🥎 Hanging With Ms. Cooper
⛳️ Pow, Powell
⭐ And much, much more!

🔺 All Jack’d Up. Earlier this week, Jack Bolz earned his fourth career EIVA Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Well, Bolz can now add another line to his resume as he was also named the AVCA National Player of the Week after his standout performances last weekend.

The senior outside hitter helped the Patriots to a 2-0 weekend, including a win over #15 Princeton, piling up 35 kills with a .394 hitting percentage, 14 digs, and five blocks in the two games.

Bolz is just the second Patriot in the past nine years to win the honor as his teammate Omar Hoyos was the last Patriot to earn the national weekly award from the AVCA, taking it home in March of 2023.

🔺 Hangin’ With Ms. Cooper. For the second time in her career, senior hurler Carly Cooper brought home a weekly accolade.

After tossing 14 innings over three starts last week and holding opponents to a 1.50 ERA, Cooper was named the A-10 Pitcher of the Week. It’s the third weekly honor of the year for the Patriots.

The last time Cooper was tabbed A-10 Pitcher of the Week was March 15, 2022.

🔺 Pow, Powell. We have a feeling this is just the beginning…

Freshman sensation JJ Powell is enjoying quite a start to his collegiate career. This week, he added to it, taking home his first conference weekly honor after being named A-10 Rookie of the Week.

The Midlothian, Va. native helped the Patriots earn a runner-up finish at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate. The freshman earned a second straight top 10 standing with a fourth-place finish, the best in his first collegiate year, at the event.

Powell has posted five top 25 finishes in eight tournaments this season.

🔺 Called To The Hall. One of the true legends of Mason athletics is getting called to the hall.

This week, it was announced that Ron Shayka will be entered into the EIVA Hall of Fame.

Shayka was a part of the Mason program as an interim coach, a head coach, and as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Operations for many years leaving an impacting legacy on the Green & Gold.

18 years ago, it was a time, we’d never forget.

Mason Madness took over not just the Mid-Atlantic region, but the entire country.
