Patriot Brew 3/4: Diamond Dandies

Patriots Pick Up Five Wins On Diamond This Weekend

Good Morning Mason Nation. All these years later, Dorothy continues to be proven right… there truly is no place like home.

For the Mason spring squads, they proved that theory yet again with a big weekend on the diamonds and on the volleyball court.

We’ll recap it all and much more! Check it out!

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Home Sweep Home. There’s truly no place like home for the Mason baseball squad.

The defending A-10 Champs used two gems and a walk-off to take a series sweep of the visiting Stags of Fairfield University, winning 3-0, 8-0 and 9-8 over the weekend.

Three pitchers combined to shutout Fairfield out in the first two games, highlighted by Nick Martins complete game, three-hitter to set the tone in Friday’s opener.

🔺 No Place Like Home. More than a month into their 2024 season, the Mason men’s volleyball team enjoyed the comforts of home for the first time.

The Green & Gold blew past Saint Francis (PA), 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in their home opener, thrilling a great home crowd.

Senior outside hitter Omar Hoyos led the way once again with 14 kills, while rookie Jackson Herbert had his first start and did not disappoint by having 11 kills tied with Liam French. Herbert also led the team with service aces (3)

🔺 Code Red. With beautiful weather taking over Fairfax, it was the perfect time for the Mason softball squad to break out and that’s what they did on Sunday.

The Patriots put together the Sunday Sweep of visiting Cornell, taking down the Big Red, 6-3 and 8-4.

Mason’s offense pounded out 22 hits, led by the duo of Maddy Myers (5) and Marlaina Bozek (4), who combined to go 9-for-15 with six RBIs and four runs scored on the day.

🔺 Keep Grinding. It was a tough weekend on the hardwood for the Patriots hoops squad with both teams dropping tough league contests heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

Mason’s women’s squad gave VCU all it could handle in a tough road environment, but dropped a 61-56 decision to the Rams. The men’s team fell to a second-half spurt to Duquesne, 59-51.

The men’s team returns to action on the road on Wednesday night at Rhode Island, while the women’s team have looked down the #4 seed and a double-bye heading into this week’s A-10 Tournament in Henrico, Va.
