🔺 Connect Four. Let’s keep history happening.

After a thrilling 77-72 road victory on Sunday to mark the first 3-0 start in 23 seasons, the Mason women’s hoops team is looking to make it 4-0 with a date with ACC foe, Pitt.

The Green & Gold have been ELECTRIC on the offensive end, averaging 85.7 points per game through the first three games, while having 🖐 players in double-figures.

Leading the offensive attack has been newcomer Ta’Viyanna Habib, who has scored in double-figures in two of the first three games, averaging 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and shooting 50.0 percent from the field.

Senior Sonia Smith, who joined the 1,000-point club earlier this year, has scored in double-digits in each of the first three games, scoring 12.7 points, dishing out 3.7 assists per game, while also grabbing five steals.

🔺 Way Up Wednesday. Patriot Pressure is tuned up for another date at EagleBank Arena.

The men’s hoops squad will be looking to go 3-0 for the third time in the past five years when it hosts Ivy League foe Cornell TONIGHT.

Through the first two victories of the 2023-24 season, the Green & Gold has held the opposition to 31.5-percent from the field and just 53.0 points per game.

Grad transfer Amari Kelly has been outstanding in his first two games as a Patriot, leading the team in scoring in both games and averaging 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks, while shooting 52.9-percent from the field.

🔺 A Pair To Praise. After helping lead the men’s soccer team to the most wins since 2018, a pair of Patriots earned praise this week.

Graduate student defender Luis Maestre was named Second Team All-Conference and freshman forward Kelly Janssen was selected to the Atlantic 10 Conference All-Rookie Team.
 
Maestre, from Elche, Spain, tied for the Atlantic 10 lead in assists (9) and tied for third in the conference in points (19).  Among NCAA leaders, he tied for second in the nation in assists (9). He led the Patriots in assists (9) and points (19) and tied for first on the club in goals (5). 

Janssen, from Sebastopol, Calif., played 10 matches with four starts and logged 451 minutes during his freshman campaign.  He scored his first collegiate goal at La Salle on Sept. 30 and netted the game-winner in Mason's 1-0 victory at Duquesne on Oct. 7.

🔺 We See You Rook. First impressions can last a while.

That’s good news for freshman Kennedy Harris of the Patriots’ women’s hoops squad as the youngster shined in the first week, helping Mason to a historic 3-0 start.

Her performance earned her the first Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor of the 2023-24 season.

In the three Green & Gold victories, Harris averaged 12.0 points per game, going 54.2% from the field, 50.0% from three-point range and 100.0% from the free-throw line. She also averaged 3.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game in the three-game week.

As we mentioned earlier, Sonia Smith is the only member of the women’s basketball team to score in double-digits in all 3️⃣ games this season.

Smith, who joined the Green & Gold last year after three seasons at Sacred Heart, has been a scoring machine since her collegiate debut.
