🔼 History Makers. Etch Alyssa Whitehead’s name in the Jamaican history books.

Whitehead, who will enter her second year at Mason this fall, is a part of the coaching staff for the Jamaican Women’s World Cup team, who this past weekend scored the first-ever Women’s World Cup victory in the country’s history.

The 1-0 victory over Panama gives the Jamaicans four points and a possible chance to advance to the Round of 16.

As part of the defensive coaching staff and in charge of the keepers, Whitehead’s unit has been spectacular, not allowing a goal in either of Jamaica’s games so far.

The final group stage game is a big one as Jamaica will take on world power Brazil on Wednesday at 6 a.m. EST.

🔼 What A Summer. Whitehead isn’t the only Patriot that is a part of history for her country.

Rising senior Milan Pierre-Jerome is having one heck of a summer “break”.

As we’ve mentioned before, she is a part of the Haitian Women’s World Cup team this summer. It’s the first time that Haiti has ever appeared in a Women’s World Cup.

Pierre-Jerome is one of the younger members of the squad and hasn’t appeared in the two games so far, but is getting the experience of a lifetime.

Haiti has dropped two tough 1-0 decisions to China and England. Their final group stage match is tomorrow against Denmark at 7 a.m. EST.

With Pierre-Jerome and Whitehead both part of one of the world’s biggest sporting events, this is the first time George Mason has both a player and a coach participating in a World Cup.

Games can be viewed on Fox Sports or Telemundo.

🔼 We’re Back… Finally! We don’t know how much longer we could’ve taken it!

This week, we are finally glad to see the Green and Gold back on campus and back on the practice fields and courts as our fall sports kick off their training camps to prepare for the upcoming 2023-24 seasons.

Our men’s and women’s soccer teams and volleyball teams will be back practicing this week, with the cross country squads joining them in a few weeks.

🔼 ICYMI…. A Legend Returns. For years, Justin Bour launched balls all over Fairfax.

He took that talent into a six-year MLB career. A career that could easily carry him into post-athlete life.

However, his commitment to a degree hold strong and he’s returned to Mason to finish what he started.

You don’t want to miss this feature on Bour’s return.

🔼 Movin’ On Up. After a historic spring, rewards and promotions can follow.

And this week, that’s exactly what happened for George Mason softball assistant coach Campbell Hutcherson, who has been promoted to associate head coach.

The North Carolina native was first brought on as an assistant coach over the offseason last year in preparation for the 2023 season, a season that later went on to be Patriots' best in program history. Among the numerous awards and accolades collected, Mason won its first Atlantic 10 title, won 35 games, the most since 2002, and reached their first-ever NCAA Regional.

Last month, Hutcherson and the Mason softball coaching staff was also awarded with the ATEC/NFCA Division I Regional Coaching Staff of the Year award. This was the first time George Mason had won the award.

🔼 You Love To See It! We love seeing these three faces together at EagleBank Arena!

The future of the Patriots is BRIGHT 😎😎

🌠 THE LEWIS ERA

The Dawn Of A New Era. July 1st officially started a new era of George Mason Athletics.

That was the day that Marvin Lewis, a former star collegiate student-athlete himself, officially took over the reins as the Athletic Director.

Energy, excitement and hard work are just some of what Marvin brings to the table. We can’t wait to see what the future has in store!

⭐️ PATRIOT COUNTDOWN: 17 DAYS

We are counting down the days to start of the 2023-2024 athletic calendar with some of the best moments, stars, and much more from Mason history.

Seventeen. No, we’re not talking about the old teeny magazine (that apparently is still operating… who knew?).

With just 17 days left until Patriot action gets underway, today, we’re highlighting, #17 Cameron Revels of the men’s soccer squad.

Originally born in South Carolina, Revels moved to North Carolina and played his high school soccer at Wakefield before starting his collegiate career at Providence College.

After one season with the Friars, Revels transferred to Mason and has an important depth piece in the midfield for the Patriots.

Over the past two years, he’s played in 19 games, including two starts.

The Biology major has dominated the classroom as he’s earned Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Roll recognition in each of his two years at Mason.

🤔 PATRIOT TRIVIA

Youth Of Nation. Mason men’s soccer had nine different goal scorers in 2022.

Several of them were among the younger members of the squad.

Can you name how many of those goal scorers were underclassmen (freshman or sophomore) in 2022?

Got a guess?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Four.

That’s right, four different underclassmen found the back of the net for Mason’s men’s soccer team last fall.

Baltimore native Zach Eichelberger (pictured) is one of three underclassmen to notch both an assist and a goal for the Patriots.

Have a great Monday, ya’ll!
