🔼 Feel The Rhythm, Feel The Rhyme. 30 years ago, Cool Runnings was released into theaters. The fun, heart-warming story of the Jamaican Bobsled team’s run to the 1988 Winter Olympics.

Maybe in 2028, we’ll have another tale about the 2023 Jamaican Women’s National soccer team, with Mason assistant coach Alyssa Whitehead on the sidelines.

Whitehead and the Jamaicans turned heads and made history this summer with their improbable run at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Jamaicans had never scored a point before. ✅
The Jamaicans had never won a World Cup game before. ✅
The Jamaicans had never advanced to the Round of 16. ✅

Now, that’s some history.

The improbable run came to an end with a tough, hard-fought 1-0 decision to Colombia in the Round of 16 on Tuesday morning.

In 420 minutes of game action, the Reggae Girlz conceded a total of one goal.

As part of the defensive coaching staff and in charge of the keepers, Whitehead’s unit was spectacular. Let’s just say, we’re lucky to have her in the Green and Gold.

Mason fans will be excited to watch incoming UNLV transfer Keyshawn Hall take the floor this year after the wing dropped 60 pounds in the offseason and is tearing up summer leagues all over the area.

Last year with the Rebels, he averaged nearly six points a game in just over 10 minutes a game. This year? There’s no telling what’s to come.

🔼 Welcome to Fairfax, You’ll Love It Here. Lots of new faces joining the Green and Gold next year and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it.

The Mason women’s lacrosse team announced 11 newcomers for the upcoming 2023-24 year with eight freshmen and three transfers becoming Patriots.

“Our program is excited to officially welcome the incoming class of 2023!" head coach Kara Mupo said. "This class will bring a high level of talent as well as a steadfast commitment to the vision we have for the future of Mason lacrosse on the field, in the classroom and amongst the community. The future is bright!"

The incoming class represents seven states from all sides of the country with at least one player at each position.

We are counting down the days to start of the 2023-2024 athletic calendar with some of the best moments, stars, and much more from Mason history.

Crazy Eights. NCAA Woman of the Year nominee Annabelle Eastman will go down as one of the most decorated female athletes in Mason history.

Eastman had eight top-10 finishes over the past two seasons and this past fall became the first female runner to qualify for NCAA Cross Country Championships since 1996 and just the sixth-ever to earn the distinction.

She became the first Patriot to win an individual cross country championship since 2013 when she took home the Atlantic 10 title last fall.

Not too shabby, not too shabby at all.

🤔 PATRIOT TRIVIA

Connect Four. This past spring, the Mason women’s track & field squad earned the program’s fourth Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship since joining the league in 2013-14.

That’s four titles in nine years. It’s the most A-10 titles for any Patriot program since becoming a part of the conference.
