What else is stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out!

💫 Reunited and It Feels So Good

⭐ And much, much more!

🌟 OH WHAT A NIGHT!

Mason Hoops is officially BACK!

EagleBank Arena hosted the official kick-off party for George Mason men's and women's basketball season at Friday night’s Mason Madness is presented by The Main on University. The Main on University is Mason Nation’s Official Student Housing Partner Located across from the Field House just steps from campus.

Fans were introduced to the members of each team and heard from new men's basketball head coach Tony Skinn ('06) and women's basketball head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis. Each team played a brief scrimmage on the EagleBank Arena floor.

On top of the hoops squad, fans were treated to a classic Green Machine performance, along incredible displays from Mason Spirit and a variety of George Mason student organizations.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 A Big One. With just over 15 minutes remaining, sophomore Nicholas Prioli scored the biggest goal of the year (so far) for the Patriots.

Prioli took a feed from Luis Maestre and fired home his second goal of the season in the 75th minute to help Mason earn a 1-1 draw against Dayton, capturing a crucial point with only two conference matches remaining in the 2023 regular season.

Mason is now unbeaten in the last three matches (2-0-1) and with two A10 games left. The Patriots are just two points out of the last spot in the upcoming conference tournament and three out of the 5-7 seed.

Maestre’s seventh assist is good for not only tops on the squad, but also tops in the league.

🔼 Honoring The Founders. No better way to celebrate Alumni Day than in dramatic fashion.

On Sunday night, that’s exactly what the Patriots’ women’s soccer team did with a gutty, hard-fought 2-1 home win over George Washington to claim their second Atlantic 10 victory of the season.

With just over 10 minutes remaining, Milan Pierre-Jerome gathered a loose ball and moved through the GW defense and fired home her second goal of the season and the game-winner for the Green & Gold.

Mason wraps up the 2023 season on Thursday when they host the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure at 5 p.m.

🔼 Sweet Saturday. Sophomore Monil Lotlikar and junior Niza Simunyola enjoyed a sweet, sweet Saturday.

The Mason duo battled their way against the region’s best and earned a berth in the Sweet 16 at the ITA Regionals in Lynchburg this past weekend.

On Saturday, the pair won an absolute thriller, 8-7 (7-2) over the William & Mary top team to reach the Sweet 16.

🔼 Girl Power. There’s nothing better than impacting the generations to come!

Freshman rower Keely Calloway and Director of Community Relations Dawn Hicks spent time on Friday at nearby Braddock Elementary for their International Day Of The Girl Celebration.

Calloway and Hicks spent time talking and meeting with students of various grades and took part in some STEAM competitions and fun!

🏀 FIFTY IS NIFTY

During the 2023-24 season, the Patriots are recognizing and celebrating 50 years of women's basketball at GMU.

Throughout the year, the program and department will be highlighting major milestones, events and athletes over the past 50 years. One of the first women's varsity sports offered at the university, women's basketball saw the signing of Title IX and the transition into a Division I program less than 10 years after its inception.

The Patriots played their first game in February of 1974 and became a Division I program prior to the 1982-83 season. Mason joined the Colonial Athletic Association for the 1985-86 season and relocated to the Atlantic 10 Conference during the 2013-14 school year.

Stay tuned throughout the coming month for more features, information and so much more.
