Patriot Brew 12/18: Perfect 10

Patriots Extend Home Winning Streak to 10

Good Morning Mason Nation. There’s just something different about being home.

Food tastes a little better, laughs are a little louder and for the George Mason men’s basketball team, the court flows a little easier.

After a lengthy time away, the Patriots returned home this past weekend and picked up right where they left off… another W.

🔺 Not In Our House. This time of year, we welcome all sorts of visitors to our homes.

On Saturday, the Mason men’s basketball team returned home for the first time in 17 days and weren’t exactly welcoming hosts as the Patriots extended their home winning streak to 10 with a hard-fought 62-54 win over Loyola (Md.).

The Green & Gold are now 20-2 at home since the start of the 2022-23 season and a perfect 6-0 in Fairfax this season.

Mason turned up the defensive pressure once again, limiting the Greyhounds to 31-percent from the field and just 26.1-percent from beyond the arc.

Sophomore standout Keyshawn Hall posted yet another double-double, his fifth of the year and the most in the Atlantic 10. He finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Green & Gold.

Senior Darius Maddox added 13 points, while junior Jared Billups chipped in 10 points and a season-high eight rebounds, including five on the offensive end.

🔺 Walking the Plank. After a nine-day break to knock out their finals, the Mason women’s basketball team returns to the road for another type of test.

The Patriots will look to continue their strong start to the 2023-24 season with a Monday evening showdown at East Carolina, a team who is looking to push its own win streak to four.

Its one of the longest standing rivalries for the Green & Gold as tonight’s matchup will be the 49th overall meeting with the two programs being former conference rivals for many years.

🔺 Ok Rook… One down, many to go.

In just his first season with the Patriots, freshman Gavin Mogck brought home all-conference accolades.

Mogck was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team after a strong start to his collegiate career, including a top-30 finish at the 2023 A-10 Cross Country Championships.

🔺 Spreading Holiday Cheer. On Saturday, the Patriots brought excitement to Mason Nation with their play on the court.

On Sunday, they turned up the holiday cheer with a special community event that brought an all-time classic to the big screen and smiles to plenty of little ones in Mason Nation.

The men’s hoops team hosted a first-ever “Buddy & The Patriots” event last night where fans could watch Elf with the team, hang out, play games and much more!

🤔 PATRIOT TRIVIA

The Patriots have been cleaning the glass all season long to help Mason out to the strongest start in program history.

In six of the first nine games, the Green & Gold have won the rebounding battle and in four of those, they’ve won the battle on the glass by a margin of 10+.

They currently lead the Atlantic 10 in total rebounds per game.
