Patriot Brew 6/16: Report Cards Are In
Today, we're putting the "student" in "student-athletes".
Happy Friday Patriots! This is the time of year that many of us may try and beat our parents to the mailbox and try and hide report cards. Not that we ever did that, we’ve just heard it from friends. (Or something like that…)
Don’t worry, our Mason student-athletes don’t have to worry about that as literally hundreds of them were honored for their academic prowess this week.
We’ve got that and much more in today’s edition of the Brew!

⭐ And much, much more!

🔼 Roll Call. As we head into summer, it’s a great time to recognize those who shined the brightest in the classroom.
This week, the A-10 announced a record-breaking 3,954 student-athletes received Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction for 2022-23.
George Mason had the fifth-most honorees with 289 student-athletes honored in the 14-team conference. Mason had 191 student-athletes with a 3.5 GPA or better and 30 with a 4.0 GPA. The senior class accounted for 104 of the nominees for the Patriots.
Designed to recognize excellence in the classroom, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport at a full member institution must have a combined fall and spring semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the academic year to be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
🔼 Homecoming. A local product is coming home!
Mason lacrosse and coach Kara Mupo will welcome Dahlia Trippel to Fairfax this upcoming year as a transfer from Frostburg State.
Trippel, who grew up in Ashburn, graduated graduated from Briar Woods with four varsity levels in lacrosse and three in cross country/track and field. She earned three All-District nods, including a first team honor in 2022. She also was named to the All-Region and All-State First Teams in the same year.
During her freshman year at Frostburg State, Trippel appeared in all 19 games with 11 starts and was fifth on the team with 24 goals. She was also second on the team with 33 draw controls, fourth with 23 ground balls and also contributed 13 caused turnovers and nine assists.

⭐ FLASHBACK FRIDAY
10 Years Ago. This upcoming fall will mark the 10-year anniversary of the George Mason’s men’s soccer team that was the FIRST Patriot squad to capture an Atlantic 10 championship.
Back in 2013, the Patriots marched to a 13-3-5 ledger and toppled nationally-ranked and top-seeded Saint Louis in the A-10 Title match.
Mason went on to defeat William & Mary in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, before suffering a heart-breaking 1-0 loss to New Mexico in the final 10 minutes of the contest.
It was one of eight total NCAA Tournament appearances for the Patriots in the program’s history.
