🔺 The Key To Victory. You know what’s a mark of a great team? Finding different ways to win.

One night, it’s the defense. The next, it’s the offense.

The offense was definitely on display when the Patriots hosted the unbeaten Big Red of Cornell as the teams fought their way back-and-forth with Mason making the key plays down the stretch to earn a 90-82 victory to move to 3-0.

Sophomore Keyshawn Hall was the story with a HUGE night, scoring 29 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and dishing out a team-high three assists. It’s his second double-double in three games this season.

Veteran forward Amari Kelly continued his strong start to the season with a third straight double-digit scoring outing, finishing with 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks for the Green & Gold.

🔺 Four Of A Kind. Earlier this week, the Mason women’s basketball team moved to 3-0 for the first time in 23 years.

Now, the Patriots accomplished something that hadn’t happened in nine seasons as the Green & Gold moved to 4-0 (first time since 2000) with a hard-fought 60-52 win over Pitt.

It’s Mason’s first win over an ACC foe since Nov. 14, 2014.

Mason’s defense held the Panthers to just 17.6-percent from long range, while senior Sonia Smith continued her double-digit scoring streak with a team-leading 16 points, including three from beyond the arc.

The Patriots grabbed an early edge and held a lead for over 35 minutes on the night thanks to a strong defense effort that forced 20 turnovers from the Panthers, that led to 26 points for the Green & Gold.

🔺 Earning Accolades. For the first time since 2018, a member of the Mason volleyball team earned a spot on the All-Atlantic 10 squads.

Junior Camille Larkin was named to the Second Team All-Conference squad, announced this week by the league office.

Larkin is the first Patriot since Bailey Williams in 2018 to earn All-Conference First or Second Team accolades.

The third-year standout consistently led not only the Patriots on offense this season, but also the Atlantic 10. She finished the regular season with the top hitting percentage among all players in the conference, finishing with an incredible .391 clip over 30 games, including a .426 against conference opponents.

The middle blocker set career-highs in almost every statistical category in 2023, both single season and single match.

🔺 Heart For The Homeland. For the past four years, Nikita Gubenko has proudly worn the Green & Gold on the golf course.

In his heart, there’s a lot of blue and yellow.

The first generation American that hails from Great Falls, Va. has deep family ties to the war-torn country of Ukraine.

While he has a strong focus on the course and academics, his heart is now turning into actions to help those in Ukraine.

🤝 BUILDING BONDS

There’s just nothing like seeing those smiling faces.

This week, the reigning A-10 Champion Mason softball squad headed over to Little Run Elementary School for the official partnership between the Patriots and the local elementary students.

The Green & Gold will work throughout the year with students from LRES, building bonds, sharing laughs and creating memories.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Carlos Yates (42)

Yates has four of the top-20 scoring performances in program history, including the all-time record when he poured in 42 points on Feb. 27, 1985 against Navy and some guy named David Robinson.

The only other Patriot to ever score 40+ in a game is Dave Skaff (41 against Catholic in 1981).
