🔺 Soarin’ High. The reload has continued.

After 20 wins in 2023-24, Coach Skinn and the Mason men’s hoops program is reloading for another run next year with the addition of a fifth transfer in Zach Anderson, an All-ASUN guard from FGCU.

A 2024 All-Atlantic Sun Third Team selection with the Eagles, Anderson ranked second on the team in scoring (12.8 ppg), grabbed 6.7 rebounds per contest and shot an impressive 45.9 percent from 3-point range.

Anderson is the fifth transfer portal addition for the Patriots so far this season. The Green & Gold also will bring in forward Giovanni Emejuru (Siena), guard Jeremiah Quigley (Iona), guard K.D. Johnson (Auburn) and guard Brayden O'Connor (UMass Lowell). In addition, the Patriots will welcome incoming freshmen Justin Begg (Houston, Texas) and Bryson Cokley (Whiteville, N.C.).

🔺 No Knocks On Knox. His first name might as well have been Fort, because there was no getting past sophomore hurler Connor Knox on Tuesday afternoon.

The righthander tossed five innings of no-hit ball against University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Tuesday afternoon to lead the the Patriots to a 9-3 victory.

Knox struck out a career-high eight batters and allowed just two baserunners and one run in the outing.

Offensively, graduate student Socrates Bardatsos led the way with a 3-for-3 afternoon with three doubles, one RBI and two runs scored.

🔺 Working Men. While their classmates are prepping for finals in Fairfax, the Mason men’s golf duo of Aryan Vuradi and JJ Powell is doing work on a different stage.

Vuradi and Powell were selected and are currently playing in the 2024 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship this week on the Stadium and Dye's Valley courses at TPC Sawgrass.

This is the 37th edition of the event, which hosts student-athletes enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving institutions, and other minority-serving educational institutions.

The PWCC is contested across five divisions including Division I Men's Team, Division II Men's Team, Women's Team Division, Men's Individual Division and Women's Individual Division.

⭐️ A NEW ERA

A new era is officially here for our beloved University and Athletics department.

Recently, George Mason University unveiled a completely redesigned logo as the capstone of its three-year-long comprehensive rebrand. The new look, which will include a single logo for the university and its athletics program, asserts George Mason’s emerging identity as a national top 50 public university and Virginia’s top-ranked university for innovation and upward mobility, as well as the commonwealth’s largest, most innovative, and most diverse university.

The ongoing rebrand signals George Mason’s convention-defying rise to become a leading national public research university by expanding access to excellence through an unwavering commitment to inclusive innovation. The rebrand rollout began in 2021, with preparations to mark 50 years of George Mason as a university in 2022 with updated brand narrative that proclaims the university’s distinct approach to education as All Together Different.

🔺 Leaving A Legacy. Last week at the Green & Gold awards, there were many honors handed. Performances, seasons, championships - all were recognized and celebrated.

But there was one award that was far more than just on field accomplishments. It was about a lasting legacy.

Junior midfielder Lauren Distad of the Mason women’s lacrosse team was the recipient of the 2024 Aimee Willard Commemorative Award.

This award is given to a student-athlete who embodies Aimee's legacy and who mirror the standards of quality set by Aimee in her two-sport career: intensity, consistency of purpose, achievement, and teamwork.
