Patriot Brew 9/11: Spaar Power
Veteran Patriot Leaving It All On The Court
Happy Monday Morning Mason Nation. When it comes to all walks of life, there’s something about the urgency that takes over when things are winding down.
In athletics, every single possible effort is going to be pushed out of the athletes body to use every ounce of ability they have in them before it’s time to hang ‘em up.
We’re seeing in right in front of our faces this fall in Fairfax. We’ve got Monday Night Futbol and much more!
What else is stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out!

⭐ And much, much more!

🔼 Spaar Power. One thing is for sure, Nani Spaar is making sure she leaves every last ounce on the court in her final season.
Spaar, a graduate student and transfer from Santa Clara, earned her second straight All-Tournament team honor this past weekend to lead Mason’s volleyball squad to a 2-1 showing at the annual Mason Invitational with the only loss coming to Brown, who is currently 7-0 on the season.
Along with her 45 kills in the three matches, Spaar added 20 digs and two blocks on the weekend. Junior Olyvia Kennedy also earned All-Tournament honors with 28 kills and four blocks, while hitting .361 on the weekend, including a .500 in final two matches of the weekend (3-0 over Robert Morris, 3-0 over Radford).
The Patriots have now won four of their past six matches and are off to the best start since the 2015 season.
🔼 What It's All About. Sure, we’re all excited to see the Patriots take the court in 5️⃣5️⃣ days (not that we’re counting or anything), but what really matters is scenes like what happened on Friday at Deer Park Elementary School.
Several of the Mason’s men’s basketball team paid a visit with several students at the school, hung out with them, read with them, and encouraged them. That’s what we’re all about! Leaving an impact on the community that supports us through it all!

🔼 Monday Night Futbol. Nothing better than some MNF, right?
After earning a hard-fought 0-0 draw on the road on Friday to a tough Bucknell squad, Mason’s men’s soccer team is back at home TONIGHT to host Navy at 7 p.m.
The Patriots are coming off back-to-back ties with a 2-2 draw against ODU and Friday’s scoreless contest with the Bison.
Despite being just 60 miles apart, this is just the fifth meeting between the two programs and first since 2019.
🔼 Conference Time Is Calling. Mason’s women’s soccer team wrapped up its incredibly difficult non-conference schedule on Sunday, hosting unbeaten Iowa, and dropping a tough 3-0 decision to the Hawkeyes. The Patriots bring a battle-tested mindset into Thursday’s conference opener on the road at Fordham.

🔼 Let’s Get It. National TV games, rivalry games, statement games.
Five national TV games, home dates with in-state rivals VCU and Richmond, and visits from perennial A-10 powers Saint Louis and Dayton all highlight a loaded slate.
The 2023-24 Non-Conference schedule is set and the season is right around the corner📅

🔼 Lock ‘Em In. Now that you’ve got the men’s games in the iPhone calendar, let’s add some more trips to the Patriots Center.
Mason’s women’s team unveiled their non-conference slate that features four home games and four more games within the Metro DC area, giving fans plenty of opportunities to catch a game!
🤔 PATRIOT TRIVIA
In Good Company. As we mentioned, today is just 55 days away from the start of the 2023-24 Mason hoops season.
With that in mind, it’s always a good time to give some love to our favorite #55 of all-time Jai Lewis.
During Jai’s four years in Fairfax, he piled up over 1,500 points and nearly 900 rebounds.
How many Patriots have scored over 1,500 points and grabbed over 850+ rebounds all-time?
Think you got it?
