🔼 A Night To Remember. November 6, 2023.

It’ll be a night that Head Coach Tony Skinn will remember forever.

A return to his alma mater and his first collegiate head coaching victory.

Patriot Pressure was on full display as Mason fought their way to a 72-61 home victory over Monmouth in the season opener for both squads. In program history, the Green and Gold have now won 22 of 30 season openers at home.

The Patriots led for 36:33 of the 40-minute contest and shot 45 percent (9-20) from 3-point range.

Four Patriots scored in double figures, led by graduate student Amari Kelly, who poured in a career-best 17 points (6-9 FG) to go along with eight rebounds and three blocks.

Senior Darius Maddox added 17 points and knocked down a personal-best five 3-pointers on just eight attempts. Classmate Ronald Polite III added 10 points and dished out a team-best five assists, while fellow senior Woody Newton tallied 10 points and four rebounds.

Sophomore Keyshawn Hall pulled down a career-best 10 boards and finished with seven points.

🔼 Firepower Unleashed. Welp, we might want to stock up on the light bulbs for the scoreboard.

Mason’s women’s basketball team showed its offensive potency on opening night pouring in nearly 100 points in a dominant 96-45 win over visiting Bowie State.

The 96 points is the most in a game for the Patriots since 2014.

Highlighting the night was senior Sonia Smith, who scored her 1,000th career point. She was one of four players in double-figures, finishing with 12 points, in addition to four assists, three rebounds and two steals. Smith is the 21st player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.

Junior Ta'Viyanna Habib (18), sophomore Zahirah Walton (17) and freshman Kennedy Harris (15) shined in their Green & Gold debuts, while Walton also tallied a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double.

🔼 One Family. Generations of Patriots gathered on the courts in Fairfax this weekend as the Mason tennis teams hosted their annual Alumni Event.

The event brought together Patriots of the past with current Patriots for an afternoon of good eats, good laughs and building plenty of Mason Pride!

🤝 HELPING HANDS

Growing the Game. Impacting Generations To Come.

This past weekend, Mason’s lacrosse squad was invited by USA Lacrosse to participate in National Celebrate Lacrosse Week.

The team joined local youth at the Fairfax Police Youth Club on Sunday, running drills, teaching skills and building connections with over 50 area youth.

🤔 PATRIOT TRIVIA

With her layup in the third quarter of Monday night’s season-opening victory, Sonia Smith joined an elite club.

She became the 21st player in program history to reach 1,000 career points with that layup.
