🔼 Say Cheese! Before the games get underway, we gotta get our hair did and our smiles right because our Patriots have to jump in front of the camera for Media Day.

This past week, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball all did their best poses, smiles and even had a little laughs to get us ready for an exciting fall for the Green and Gold.

🔼 Can We Get Some Nametags, Please? With the start of practices and full training, chemistry is being built each and every day.

That team building may include some name tags for the Mason men’s soccer program as it welcomes 16 new faces to the program this fall.

The new group consists of seven freshmen and nine transfers.

🔼 Oh Captain, My Captains. Although they didn’t start their careers in Fairfax, this duo is surely ending it here in a major way.

For the second straight season, Ashley Shimberg and Milan Pierre-Jerome will don the coveted “c” for the second straight fall after earning the team captain title yet again.

Shimberg, a MTSU transfer, and Pierre-Jerome, a Maryland transfer, both had huge impacts on the Green and Gold last year and will be back again trying to lead the Patriots into contention in a toughly-contested Atlantic 10.

Mason's potential foes in the Coast Bracket include UCF, Charlotte and South Dakota State. Both the Knights and the 49ers finished in the top-100 of the 2022-23 NET Rankings.

⏱ PATRIOT COUNTDOWN: 3 DAYS

We are counting down the days to start of the 2023-2024 athletic calendar with some of the best moments, stars, and much more from Mason history.

Tip Of The Cap. As we approach the first game of 2023, the women’s soccer team will be playing without Kolbrun Eyjolfsdottir, a mainstay for the Patriots over the past four seasons.

Eyjolfsdottir was a team captain for last year’s squad, helping the Patriots earn two shutouts with her defensive prowess on the backline.

In her four seasons in Fairfax, she played in 57 games, tallying over 5,200 minutes of game action. She scored six goals on 19 shots and was a part of eight shutouts as a key cog in the Green and Gold backline.

She played at three different levels with the Icelandic National teams (U16, U17 and U19) and with a first division club, Stjarnan. She graduated this past May with a degree in computer engineering.

But don’t worry, #3 will still be on the pitch this fall, but it’ll be Sydney Dacus donning the digit. The sophomore midfielder from Tennessee ditched #24 to put on #3 this year.

🤔 PATRIOT TRIVIA

Sunshine… Sunshineeee. Last week, it was announced that Mason’s men’s hoops team will be playing in the 2023 Jacksonville Classic this upcoming November.

So it got us thinking, when was the last time that the Patriots played in Florida.

The answer? The 2018 Emerald Coast Classic where Mason battled both Cincinnati and Baylor, two NCAA Tournament teams that season.

Our question for you - who was the leading scorer for the Patriots for those two games?

Got a guess?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Otis Livingston II.

This probably doesn’t come as a huge surprise because Livingston did a lot of scoring as a Patriot, but in those two games, he poured in a combined 35 points on 12-of-27 shooting, while also dishing out six assists and picking up five steals.

⭐️ Have a great start to your week!
