Patriot Brew 4/22: What A Run!

Patriots' Remarkable Spring Comes To Close in EIVA Championship

Good Morning Mason Nation. After another remarkable season comes to a close, we turn to an all-time quote from good ole Dr. Seuss.

It was an incredible year on the court for the Mason men’s volleyball team and we’ll reflect on the journey, while celebrating a big weekend of wins from other programs!

We’ll recap it all and so much more! Check it out below!

🔺 What A Run. It was a year of thrilling wins, captivating performances and a perfect home record.

The 15th-ranked Mason men’s volleyball team fought their way to the EIVA Championship, but dropped a hard-fought showdown with top-seeded Penn State, 3-1.

Jack Bolz and Omar Hoyos combined for 38 kills and helped the Patriots take a thrilling first set, but the home team responded with three straight set victories to take the title.

"I know we didn't win tonight, but in my mind this group accomplished so much this year," said head coach Jay Hosack. "I am very proud of our seniors and the leadership they provided to the young guys. They learned what it takes to be successful, and will carry those lessons throughout their careers here. Our future looks very bright, and left it all out on the court tonight".

🔺 Super Shannon. And the legend of Shannon Tuozzo continues to grow.

Among the nation’s leader in goals scored already, Tuozzo added to her 2024 season resume with a season-high seven goals to lead the Patriots women’s lacrosse team to a 16-11 road win over La Salle on Saturday.

In addition to Tuozzo, sophomore Dahlia Trippel added four goals for the Green & Gold, who exploded with seven goals in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Explorers.

The win propels the Patriots to 10 wins on the season, giving them double-digit wins for the seventh time in the 30 year history of the program.

🔺 Walk It Out. With just a few weeks left in Atlantic 10 play, every game is crucial for the Mason softball squad.

Taking on Saint Louis, one of the top teams in the league, the Patriots gave them everything they could and delivered with not one, but ✌️ walk off victories to remain in the hunt for the final few spots in the upcoming tournament.

Freshman Emily Lampela delivered the walk-off RBI single in game 1 of the series, while grad student Rachel Warrens roped an RBI single in the series finale to deliver the game-winning run.

👏 RAISING THE BAR

For Mason Athletics, its been a record-setting season in
many ways on the field, court, track, and any competitive surface.

While the Patriots are on the rise in against their opponents, Mason Nation is on the rise as well, raising the bar once again during this year’s eighth
annual Vision Day earlier this month.

George Mason Athletics had more than 900 unique donors contribute a record $467,000 to ensure the success of Patriots' student-athletes and enhance their experience on campus. That's an increase of more than $50,000 the dollar amount from 2023, as Mason Athletics had 565 donors and raised $416,690 on last year's Giving Day.

"We are grateful and sincerely appreciative of all of the support and generosity of our fans, donors, staff and campus community to make Mason Vision Day a great success," said Assistant Vice President, Director of Athletics Marvin Lewis. "It was truly a team effort and a perfect illustration of the community's commitment to our 500-plus student-athletes who proudly wear Green & Gold and continue to be outstanding ambassadors of our university."
