Patriots Enjoying Campin' With Local Community

TGIF Mason Nation. A Chinese philosopher once made the statement, “never lose the child within you.”

This week around campus, those inner children are being realized as the Patriots welcome area youth for camp week and you should see these smiles!

⚽️ BE OUR GUEST

The pitch at George Mason had quite a guest this week as Lionel Messi
and his Argentinian teammates spent time getting their legs loose
and practicing on the Patriots’ soccer field in preparation
for their Copa America match last night against Canada.

😁 YOUNG AT HEART

While the temperatures are rising quickly, so is the fun around campus
as area youth have descended upon the fields and gym in Fairfax for
fun in the sun and on the court with camp week for both
the Patriot softball and men’s hoops squad.

🥇 GOLDEN MEMORY

We are less than a month away from the 2024 Olympics in Paris and there’s no better time to jump in the time machine to just eight years ago.

That’s when the Patriots enjoyed a truly golden summer as former Mason standout David Verburg became the first Mason alum to capture a gold medal at the Olympics.

Verburg was a member of the 4×400 relay that captured gold at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

🎥 CATCHIN’ UP WITH COACH

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Chris Widger.

Widger is one of only two former Patriots to play 500+ games in the MLB and sits at the top spot with 613 games played, racking up nearly 2,000 at-bats with six different teams, including four with the Montreal Expos.

Justin Bour is the other Mason alum with 500+ games played, appearing in 559 games between 2014 and 2019.
