🔼  Break Out The Brooms. George Mason men’s volleyball picked up its first win of the season in sweeping fashion! The Patriots swept Merrimack in straight sets on Saturday. Aidan Weltin led the Patriot offense with a game-high 15 kills and one service ace. George Mason will host the University of Mount Olive on Friday.

🔼 Successful Weekend. Patriot track & field excelled at the Hokie Invitational, achieving personal bests and event wins in various track and field events. Standout performances included Ella Semple’s first-place finish in the women’s mile and Kailynn Tyson’s win in the women’s triple jump, which also earned her a spot in the NCAA indoor rankings. Kennedy Drish also earned a national ranking with a personal best performance in the pole vault. The men’s 4×400m relay team also finished first.

🔼  Finished Strong. The George Mason men’s swimming and diving team defeated Georgetown 169.50-127.50. The Patriots had several individual event winners, including Aoun Al-Hiari, Tate Anderson, Ian Rodgers, and Ryan Serbia. The A-10 Championships will be held Feb. 18-21.

🔼  Fell Short. The men’s basketball team dropped its first conference game of the season, losing at Rhode Island 74-65. Kory Mincy led the Patriots with 19 points and six rebounds. The Patriots held a 23-4 advantage in bench scoring, but Rhode Island took advantage of nine George Mason turnovers. George Mason will host Davidson on Wednesday.

George Mason Athletics is celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day with a Youth Sports Carnival at the women’s basketball game against Saint Louis on Jan. 31. The carnival will feature games and autograph signings with student-athletes. Alumni will also be honored as we kick off Homecoming Week.
